Born in Bromsgrove in the summer of 1995, Jack progressed from school rock bands into wider genre’s, exploring musical styles covering rock, jazz, blues, reggae, funk and world music to name just a few. Some of his influences include Tony Allen, Clyde Stubblefield, Steve Gadd, Zigaboo Modeliste, Billy Ward & local legend John Bonham.
Jack continued his musical development through sixth form where he was introduced to the importance of time sequencing through Steve Reich’s ‘Electric Counterpoint’. He later went on to complete a Bachelor of Music Degree in Performance, gaining a ‘first’ at The University of Wolverhampton where he studied under Neil Bullock, a previous student of the great Joe Morello and Jim Chapin. Running in parallel with his degree studies Jack attended jazz workshops at the Shoe Factory, in Northampton working alongside and later becoming a student of Trevor Tomkins.
The diverse nature of his musical foundations have allowed Jack to become a much sought after professional musician, recording all drum elements on Lawrence Taylor’s EP (Bang Bang – 17 million plays on Spotify), working with Andy Bennett (Ocean Colour Scene) and performing with Willow Robinson supporting The Jesus and Mary Chain and Cast on their UK tours.
Jack has performed at both large and small venues in the UK and Europe to sell out gigs at Shepherds Bush Empire, the O2’s in Oxford and Cambridge, Leeds Festival, Upton Blues, The Groucho Club in Soho, The F1 & Moto GP’s at Silverstone, and Camden Rocks to name but a few, Jack has also toured, Greece, The Czech Republic , Holland and Germany with various bands.
As Jack says, ‘music is constantly evolving and you have to stay professional and be prepared to change with it. It’s not about the ego, it’s about the feel, the groove, the music’. Following two years of touring with the Northampton based rock band Empyre, creating and recording distinctive drum patterns on their newly released album ‘Self Aware’, it was time to move on and diversify.
Jack is now touring with the exciting Tom C Walker band with their roots firmly in Jazz/Funk and Blues. The band are touring the UK throughout the year which includes performing on the same bill as the Jacksons at the Mosley Jazz, Funk and Soul festival in Birmingham, another direction to add to his CV.
Major gigs are important but keeping your feet on the ground is also important which is why Jack has also collaborated with local artists such as, Sebastian Tree, George Wilson, Mirron Webb, Cloe Mogg and Joe Corfield on various projects. Alongside band gig work, Jack regularly works with individual artists via digital data transfer, works on film scores, completes session musician activities, teaches drums, writes and records his own music and continues to study music in his home studio.
As a professional musician, Jack’s aim is to be creative, be reliable and to be honest……but also to take his musicianship to another level.
